The global film industry gathered in Hollywood for the prestigious 98th Academy Awards, celebrating the best achievements in cinema while also reflecting the power of art and celebrity voices in shaping global conversations.

Held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles and hosted by Conan O’Brien, the 2026 Oscars recognized films released in 2025 and delivered a night filled with cinematic triumphs, emotional speeches, and political reflections on global conflicts.

A Historic Victory for One Battle After Another

The biggest winner of the night was One Battle After Another, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, which secured six Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director. The film also earned awards for Best Adapted Screenplay, Film Editing and Best Supporting Actor.

Hollywood veteran Sean Penn won Best Supporting Actor for his powerful performance in the film, marking another milestone in his long career.

The film’s sweeping victory confirmed its status as the most critically acclaimed cinematic achievement of the year.

Major Acting Winners

Several global stars took home the most coveted acting awards.

Best Actor went to Michael B. Jordan for his gripping role in Sinners, a film that also won awards for screenplay, score and cinematography.

Jessie Buckley at the 98th Annual Oscars held at Dolby Theatre on March 15, 2026 in Hollywood, California.

The Best Actress Oscar was awarded to Jessie Buckley for her performance in Hamnet, making history as the first Irish actress to win the category.

Meanwhile, Amy Madigan won Best Supporting Actress for Weapons, rounding out an impressive night for dramatic performances.

International and Technical Highlights

Beyond the major acting categories, several films captured the spotlight across technical and international categories.

The Norwegian drama Sentimental Value won Best International Feature Film, while the documentary Mr. Nobody Against Putin received the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature.

In animation, KPop Demon Hunters won Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for “Golden.”

Technical awards also went to films such as Frankenstein, which won multiple design awards, and Avatar: Fire and Ash, which took home the Oscar for Best Visual Effects.

Voices from the Red Carpet: “Stop the War”

While the Oscars celebrated cinema, several actors and actresses used their platform to address global conflicts and humanitarian concerns.

During interviews and speeches, some artists called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and urged the international community to “stop the war” and protect civilians in Palestine.

Several actresses emphasized that art and cinema should stand for humanity and compassion.

“Cinema gives us a voice,” one performer said on the red carpet. “Our voice must call for peace, for children, and for humanity.”

The statements echoed a broader movement within the global film community where artists increasingly use award platforms to highlight humanitarian issues.

Cinema as a Voice for Humanity

The 2026 Oscars demonstrated once again that the film industry is more than entertainment. It remains a powerful platform where stories, cultures, and global concerns intersect.

From historic wins to passionate calls for peace, the ceremony reflected both the artistic achievements of cinema and the moral voices of its creators.

As Hollywood celebrated excellence in filmmaking, many stars reminded the world that storytelling also carries responsibility — to speak out, to inspire, and to advocate for peace.
