Known for his professionalism, leadership, and passion for education, Mr. Ranasinghe has become an inspiring figure among the Sri Lankan community abroad.
Born and educated in Sri Lanka, he demonstrated leadership qualities and discipline from his school days. During his academic years, he actively participated in school activities and developed a strong interest in hospitality, communication, and international culture. These early experiences helped shape his future vision and career path.

Today, as Co-Partner and Director of Hospitality Education (Pvt) Ltd in Sri Lanka, he is dedicated to empowering young Sri Lankans through hospitality education, international exposure, and career development opportunities.
In this exclusive interview with Paris Telegraph, Mr. Ranasinghe speaks about his life journey, hospitality education, Sri Lanka’s tourism future, and the importance of giving back to the next generation.
Q: Mr. Ranasinghe, could you briefly tell us about your journey from Sri Lanka to France and your life experience over the past decades in Paris?
First of all, I would like to thank Paris Telegraph for giving me this wonderful opportunity to speak about hospitality education in Sri Lanka.
My journey began in Sri Lanka before I moved to France in search of new opportunities. Decades in Paris broadened my perspective, strengthened my professional experience, and exposed me to diverse cultures. France taught me discipline and professionalism, while Sri Lanka has always remained central to my identity.

Q: After living abroad for many years, what inspired you to become part of this hospitality education project in Sri Lanka?
I believe success is most meaningful when it is shared. Sri Lanka has tremendous potential in tourism and hospitality, and this project gave me an opportunity to help young people gain the skills and opportunities needed for successful careers.
Q: As Co-Partner and Director of the institute, what role do you personally play in the development and vision of the hotel school?
I mainly focus on strategic direction, international perspectives, and long-term growth. I work closely with the leadership team to maintain global standards, build international partnerships, and promote professionalism and excellence within the institution.

Q: Your nephew is the Founder and CEO of the institution and an experienced hospitality professional. How did this partnership begin?
Our partnership grew from a shared commitment to education and youth development. When he presented his vision for a world-class hospitality institution in Sri Lanka, I immediately recognized its potential and chose to support it as a partner and mentor.
Q: Why do you believe hospitality and tourism education is important for the future of Sri Lankan youth?
Hospitality and tourism offer significant career opportunities worldwide. Quality education equips young people with practical skills, international standards, and pathways to rewarding careers, while also supporting Sri Lanka’s economic growth.
Sri Lanka’s tourism industry is now experiencing strong growth and international recognition. The country has become one of the world’s most attractive travel destinations because of its natural beauty, culture, wildlife, beaches, and warm hospitality. This creates tremendous opportunities for young Sri Lankans to build successful careers both locally and internationally.
Q: From your international exposure, what standards or values from Europe do you hope students in Sri Lanka can learn and adopt?
I hope students embrace professionalism, punctuality, respect for diversity, customer-focused service, and continuous improvement. These values are essential for success in the global hospitality industry.
Europe emphasizes punctuality, efficiency, and consistency, while Sri Lanka is known for its warmth and genuine hospitality. Combining these strengths can create an exceptional service culture.
Q: What opportunities are currently available for young Sri Lankans in the global hospitality industry?
It is a vast field with opportunities across hotels, resorts, cruise lines, airlines, events, and tourism operations worldwide. With strong training and language skills, Sri Lankan youth can build highly successful international careers.
Q: What are the biggest challenges young people face today when building their careers?
The modern job market is highly competitive and constantly evolving. Success requires adaptability, resilience, discipline, and a commitment to continuous learning rather than expecting immediate results.

Q: How does the institute help students gain practical experience and confidence?
We combine academic learning with hands-on training, internships, workshops, and mentorship. This prepares students with practical skills, industry knowledge, and the confidence to succeed professionally.
Q: What changes are necessary for Sri Lanka to become a leading tourism and hospitality destination?
Sri Lanka must continue investing in infrastructure, service quality, hospitality training, and international marketing. A skilled workforce and sustainable tourism practices will be key to long-term success.
Q: What message would you like to share with parents and students considering hospitality education?
Hospitality is a truly global profession with diverse opportunities. I encourage parents to support their children’s ambitions and remind students that professionalism, dedication, and a positive attitude can open doors worldwide.
Q: What future plans do you hope to see for the institute?
I hope to see expanded programs, stronger international partnerships, and more opportunities for student exchanges and global careers. Our goal is to become a leading hospitality education provider in the region.

Q: What gives you the greatest satisfaction in supporting this initiative?
Seeing young people gain skills, confidence, and better opportunities is deeply rewarding. Contributing to their success and to the country’s development gives me great satisfaction.
Q: What advice would you give to young Sri Lankans who dream of building an international future?
Keep learning, stay humble, and embrace challenges. Gain international experience, but never lose sight of your roots. The knowledge and skills you acquire can help drive Sri Lanka’s future development.
Q: Finally, what message would you like to share with the Sri Lankan migrant community around the world?
No matter where we live, Sri Lanka remains our home. Stay connected, support one another, and contribute whenever possible. Success has greater value when it creates opportunities for others and helps build a stronger future for the next generation.
