Amazon Announces €15 Billion Investment in France, Promising 7,000 New Jobs.
Paris Telegraph 07/05/2026
Amazon has announced plans to invest more than €15 billion in France between 2026 and 2028, marking the company’s largest-ever financial commitment in the country. The investment is expected to create over 7,000 permanent jobs and significantly expand France’s logistics, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence infrastructure.
According to official statements released by Amazon France and Amazon Europe, the multi-billion-euro plan will fund the construction of new logistics centers, upgrades to existing facilities, and the expansion of Amazon Web Services (AWS) and AI capabilities across France.
The announcement comes at a crucial moment for the French economy as the government seeks to position France as a leading European hub for technology, AI innovation, and foreign investment.
Thousands of Jobs Across France
Amazon confirmed that the investment will generate more than 7,000 permanent jobs across several regions in France. Major logistics centers are planned in:
- Illiers-Combray – around 1,000 jobs
- Beauvais – around 1,000 jobs
- Colombier-Saugnieu – around 3,000 jobs
- Ensisheim – around 2,000 jobs by late 2027
Jean-Baptiste Thomas, Amazon’s Country Manager for France, described the investment as a sign of the company’s “confidence in France’s economic and technological future.”
French Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade and Economic Attractiveness Nicolas Forissier welcomed the announcement, calling it “a very strong signal” for the country’s ability to attract long-term global investment.
AI and Cloud Expansion at the Center
A significant portion of the investment will focus on cloud computing and artificial intelligence through Amazon Web Services (AWS). France has increasingly become a strategic location for AI infrastructure in Europe, especially as governments and businesses accelerate digital transformation.
Amazon said the new investments would strengthen France’s competitiveness in emerging technologies while helping French businesses access advanced AI tools and cloud services.
The move also aligns with broader efforts by President Emmanuel Macron to attract major technology investments into France and position the country as Europe’s leading AI destination.
Economic Impact and Local Development
Amazon says its logistics network already supports more than 100,000 jobs in France directly and indirectly, with over 25,000 permanent employees currently working for the company nationwide. Since 2010, Amazon claims it has invested more than €30 billion in France.
The company also highlighted expected benefits for local economies through tax contributions, infrastructure development, and employment opportunities.
Officials say the expansion could boost regional economies outside major metropolitan areas while accelerating technological modernization in France.
Environmental and Political Debate
Amazon emphasized that part of the investment strategy includes reducing emissions through localized logistics networks, electric delivery vehicles, rail transport, and low-carbon delivery systems. The company stated that more than two-thirds of packages in over 20 French cities are already delivered using electric vehicles, cargo bikes, or on foot.
However, the announcement has also sparked debate among critics concerned about the growing influence of American tech giants in Europe, data sovereignty issues, labor practices, and environmental pressures linked to large-scale data centers and logistics operations. Online discussions on European forums and social platforms reflected mixed reactions ranging from optimism about job creation to concerns over dependence on U.S.-based technology infrastructure.
France Strengthens Position as European Investment Hub
The announcement reinforces France’s growing status as one of Europe’s top destinations for foreign direct investment. In recent years, major global firms including Microsoft, Pfizer, and Amazon have committed billions of euros to projects in France linked to AI, cloud infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, and logistics.
As competition intensifies across Europe to attract AI and technology investment, Amazon’s €15 billion commitment is likely to be viewed as a major boost for France’s ambitions to lead the continent’s digital economy.
