Iran Announces Major New Natural Gas Discovery in Fars Province

TEHRAN — Iran has announced the discovery of a major new natural gas field in the southern province of Fars, with more than 7.5 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of gas reserves, potentially adding a significant new resource to the country’s already vast energy reserves.
Iranian Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad announced the discovery on Sunday, saying approximately 5.7 Tcf of the gas is estimated to be recoverable. The total discovery is equivalent to around 212.4 billion cubic metres of natural gas. (Daily Sabah)

According to Paknejad, the recoverable volume could be equivalent to approximately 15 years of production from one phase of the giant South Pars gas field, which Iran shares with Qatar. South Pars is the world’s largest natural gas field. (AA.com.tr)
